Reports

Reports turn your transactions into clear, visual insight — so you can see how much you earn, where it goes, and how things change over time. Available on every plan.

The summary report

Your report gives you the headline numbers for the selected period:

  • Total income and total expenses.
  • Net profit margin — what proportion of your income you keep.
  • Top expense category — where most of your money goes.

Charts & breakdowns

Visualisations make the patterns obvious:

  • Monthly income vs. expenses — a month-by-month comparison across the year.
  • Income distribution — where your income comes from.
  • Expense distribution — how your spending splits across categories.
  • Monthly growth — how your income changes month over month.

Calendar vs. fiscal year

Reports can follow either a standard calendar year (January–December) or a custom fiscal year with a start month and day you choose. This is handy if your finances run on a non-calendar cycle.

Set your fiscal-year start and year window preference in Preferences — reports will follow it automatically.

Exporting a report to CSV

Click Export CSV on the Reports page to download a comprehensive financial report for the selected year. The file is named expenzx-report-{YYYY}.csv and opens correctly in Excel, Numbers, and Google Sheets.

The exported file includes four sections:

  • Header — report year, period covered, date generated, and your display currency.
  • Income summary — total per income category, then a grand total.
  • Expense summary — total per expense category, then a grand total.
  • Net summary — total income, total expenses, net balance, and net profit margin (%).
  • Monthly breakdown — one row per month showing income, expenses, and net for that month.

The report CSV uses UTF-8 BOM encoding so Excel recognises it correctly without any import wizard steps.
